CAS No.: 24634-61-5; 590-00-1
Molecular Formula: C6H7KO2
- Product Content
Potassium sorbate – Colorless to white flaky crystals or crystalline powder, odorless or with a slight odor. Unstable in air. Can be oxidized and colored. Molecular weight
150.22. Hygroscopic. Easily soluble in water and ethanol. Primarily used as a food preservative; it is an acidic preservative and its effectiveness is enhanced when used in
combination with organic acids.
Uses:
1. Potassium sorbate is an internationally recognized low-toxicity, highly effective acidic preservative, with the same preservative effect as sorbic acid.
2. Used as a food preservative, for preserving fruits and vegetables, and as a preservative in detergents, cosmetics, and animal feed.
3. Cosmetic preservative. Belongs to the organic acid preservative class. The typical addition amount is 0.5%. Can be mixed with sorbic acid. Although potassium sorbate
is easily soluble in water and convenient to use, its 1% aqueous solution has a pH of 7-8, which tends to increase the pH of cosmetics; this should be noted during use.
